Louisiana Board of Professional Geoscientists
DAVID R. WILLIAMSON

David Ray Williamson has served as a Board Member of the Louisiana Board of Professional Geoscientists and Chair of the License Review Committee since 2018. He is a National Association of State Boards of Geology (ASBOG) Council of Educators Subject Matter Expert in Geology. 

Mr. Williamson is a Licensed Professional Geoscientist in Louisiana, and a Registered/Licensed Geoscientist/Geologist in Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas.  He is a graduate of Millsaps College with a BS degree in Geology. He has completed graduate courses in Geology at Mississippi State University, the University of Southern Mississippi and the University of Missouri. 

He has over 50 years of experience in geological assessments, industrial mineral investigations, environmental investigations and project management. He worked as a Staff Geologist for the Mississippi Geological Survey (now MS DEQ Office of Geology), authored “An Investigation of Tertiary Lignites of Mississippi” (Mississippi Geological Survey, Information Series MGS-74-1, Jackson, MS, 1976) and served on the team that wrote surface mining and reclamation regulations (Mississippi Surface Mining and Reclamation Act of 1977). 

Recently he co-authored “Stratigraphic and Other Geological Evidence for the Alteration of Calcareous Glauconitic Marine Sediments to Calcium Bentonite (May, James H., Isphording, Wayne C., Patrick, David, Williamson, David R., and Lyles, James E., Sr., AEG Environmental & Engineering Geoscience Journal, Vol. 28, No. 2, May 2022). Mr. Williamson was Project Manager for exploration, development and permitting of the first commercial coal mine in Louisiana, a 30,000-acre 2.5-millionton/year surface mine.  

He served on the industry committee that assisted the State of Louisiana Department of Natural Resources to develop surface coal mining regulations. He is the owner of Williamson & Associates, LLC – Geological and Environmental Consultants in Shreveport, Louisiana. He conducts geological assessments; mineral exploration; wetland determinations/delineations and US Army Corps of Engineers permitting; Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments; remediation of contaminated sites; environmental permitting; regulatory compliance; serves as an expert witness and provides litigation support services. 

He is a Life Member of the National Speleological Society and has explored and mapped caves across the United States and in Mexico. Mr. Williamson is a military veteran and served as a 2nd Lieutenant A Team Commander in the US Army 20th Special Forces Group. He has also served as a Commissioned Law Enforcement Officer as an Auxiliary Deputy with the Caddo Parish Sheriff Department.
